The training the Junior League of Fort Wayne provides to our volunteers is what sets us apart from other volunteer organizations. Training is at the heart of everything we do. According to our mission statement: The Junior League of Fort Wayne is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. It means that we take seriously the task of preparing women to be knowledgeable and confident civic leaders. The foundation laid through Junior League training has lifetime benefit for women in their professional lives and in community engagement.
Some examples of Training JLFW provides members include:
JLFW University classes are organized by the Membership Development committee and occur throughout the League year. Class topic range from cooking to self-defense to leadership development to guest speakers. These opportunities look to enrich the lives of JLFW members in many ways.
AJLI Conferences occur throughout the year, and each fall and spring, JLFW sends members to the Organizational Development Institutes (ODI). At ODI, members follow different learning tracks and interact with other Leagues to share ideas and bring home new ideas to better their League.
General Membership Meetings provide training and general League information in a large group setting. Speakers are often brought in to educate, inform and inspire.
Committee Placements are a source of training by their nature. Volunteers can receive a variety of training in each of our placement opportunities. Members have the opportunity to choose placements so they can choose ways to impact their own development goals.
New Member Class teaches the newest members about JLFW and the importance and impact of our community involvement.
Full Council Retreat/Meetings offer committee chairs and board members an orientation to leadership within JLFW and provides information on how to be an effective leader and committee chair.
Leadership Fort Wayne is a training program outside of JLFW, however, each year the Junior League nominates and pays for one of its members to be a part of this exclusive and elite local leadership.
