The Junior League of Fort Wayne is an organization with deep roots in the community and a proud history of service. In 1919 a small group of high school women created a charter for the E. Jane Hamilton Society and dedicated their efforts to community projects. In 1941, this group applied for and was accepted as a member organization of the Association of the Junior Leagues of America, now called the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI).
Historically, the Junior League of Fort Wayne has focused its efforts on projects benefiting women and children. The League is on the forefront of recognizing needs in the community and helping to develop programs to meet these needs. Over the last seventy-three years, the Junior League of Fort Wayne has given countless volunteer hours and over $1 million to impact the community in a positive and lasting way. Throughout our 70+ year history, we have remained dedicated to the three components of our mission:
Our members want to make our community better by more than just writing a check. They want hands-on volunteer experiences through our long term community projects and our Done-in-a-Day projects. They want to see who they are helping, how the lives of those being served are better because of Junior League’s involvement, and they want to use the volunteer skills that they are learning as part of their Junior League membership.
Developing the Potential of Women
We empower women through leadership training and personal development opportunities that are unmatched in our community. Our training is exactly what sets the Junior League apart from other service organizations. Our members understand the needs in their community. They are able to speak publicly about a cause, organize groups to move forward on an issue, and advocate for the women and children who may not have a voice that is heard.
Improving the Community
Junior League is unique in our ability to provide not only funds but the volunteer expertise and time to address a community need. Junior League is innovative in its ability to seek out partnerships and collaborations with other community organizations that positively impact the lives of women and children. We understand that collaboration is the cornerstone of today’s non-profit world.
