New Member Class Project

Each year our New Member Class completes a community project.  Working together as a team on such worthwhile projects is an important part of the year as a New Member of the Junior League of Fort Wayne.

Last year's New Member Class was a diverse group of twenty-one women from various backgrounds coming together to volunteer their time to help those in need.  The New Member Project for the 2008-2009 League year was "Kids In The Kitchen" for Charis House. The New Members met on many occasions brainstormed many ideas while preparing for the event.

The event took place in late April 2009, and served 14-20 women and children. There were five stations prepared for the participants.  They included: The Food Pyramid/Proper Portions, Heathly Fast Food Options, Pilates, Healthy Snack Options, and Yogurt Parfaits.  All participants also left with a red recyclable shopping tote filled with items to promote healthy living. The morning spent with the children and adults at Charis House was a positive learning experience for all.

(Charis House is the Women's and Children's Division of Fort Wayne Rescue Ministries - "Where women and children seeking shelter find hope for the future.")
